The Company’s Origins

In August 1998, two developers, Peter M. Longstrand and Frédéric Micallef, combined their skills and created the company Atom e-City Ltd. in London. Convinced of the tremendous potential that the expansion of the Internet represented for professionals in all sectors, they decided to consolidate a network of skills specialising in computer exchanges.

Their main goal: to offer quality computing services to businesses at highly competitive rates in order to help them take full advantage of the Internet boom.

Their method: to develop a network of highly qualified contributors, with both diverse and complementary skills. As a result, they were able to offer a wide range of services: the development of specific applications and Web sites for e-commerce, secured hosting, design of intranets and extranets, and localisation of sites in the major European languages.

To meet customer requirements, Atom e-City soon expanded its range of activities, supplementing them with training, consulting, the monitoring of technological development, software localisation, and technical, legal, and marketing translation.

Eighteen months after its creation, Atom e-City opened a branch in France. This branch was initially assigned with the computer training of business professionals, reinforcing its IT Design & Development department. At the same time, faced with growing local demand, the French branch developed a Translation & Localisation department.
It was at this time that Bérangère Mariage, a qualified translator, joined the Atom e-City team. Her expertise and enthusiasm made her the major player in organising the company’s Translation department.

Since 2001, the IT Design and Development activities have been centred at the British head office, while the translation and localisation activities are based at the French branch.

Translation and localisation currently constitute Atom e-City’s main activities.
